Since November 2024 we have placed 24 families in campers. throughout WNC and East TN. This shares a bit of information about each family.
A family displaced from Washington County, TN who was flooded in their home is now placed in a campground in Greene County, TN. They walked across a bridge to leave their home and had a 1yo and 3yo at the time of the horrific flooding of Hurricane Helene. One week after the flood their 3rd child was born. They are thankful for their camper placement and hope to be able to regain stability in the days ahead.
A single dad in Spruce Pine, NC was blessed with a camper 10 weeks after the devastating winds damaged his previous camper. At that time, he had not been able to keep his son overnight due to the tree damage and the inability to properly heat his camper. This gentleman was also donated a tent to house his tools as he works on homes for a living and did not have proper storage due to his shed being damaged.
A grandmother, her grandchild & her rescue animals were able to be placed in a camper in time for Thanksgiving. They were displaced from Washington County, TN and able to restore their home with the assistance of ASP. They were able to return to their home in February - 4.5 months after the flood.
A single mother & her child were able to be placed in a camper in time for Christmas. They were displaced from Unicoi County, TN at Red Banks Campground. As a full time employee for the campground she lost her employment and her residence due to the destruction of Helene. She is able to provide a sense of normalcy through a generous donation of a vehicle and a camper.
A gentleman was able to be placed in a camper in time for Christmas. He was displaced from Unicoi County, TN. He loves the outdoors and everything that nature offers. He watched the devastation of Helene at his doorstep and was able to regain a sense of normalcy through the generous donation of a camper.
A family of 5 were able to be placed in a camper in time for Thanksgiving. They were displaced from Buncombe County, NC and relocated to Washington County, TN. They lost their home and are now in a camper starting over. They lived on family land and are not able to rebuild.
A family of 6 were able to be placed in a camper in time for Thanksgiving. They were displaced from Washington County, TN and relocated to a campground about 15 minutes from their property. They lost their home due to the devastation of Helene and are unsure if they will be able to rebuild.
A family of 5 were able to be placed in a camper in time for Christmas. They were displaced from Carter County, TN and relocated to a campground. They lost their home & vehicle due to the devastation of Helene. To date, their vehicle has been replaced. They are able to rebuild on their property; however, did not have a mortgage so we are navigating grant opportunities.
A single woman & her son were placed in a camper in January 2025. They were displaced from Washington County, TN and relocated to a campground. They lost their home due to the devastation of Helene.
A young family was displaced from Henderson County, NC and relocated to Knox County, TN. They were renters and lost their home due to the devastation of Helene. Due to the wide spread devastation they were unable to transition into another rental in WNC.
